October 14, 1897
Catharine Butt, nee Bottorf, was born in Covington, Ohio, January 15, 1843, died October 10, 1897, aged 44 years, 8 months and 27 days. She was married to George W. Butt, December 22,1 864. The first five years of their married life they lived in Dayton, Ohio, after which they removed to Covington, where they have resided ever since. God prospered and brightened their home in the birth of six children. A more devoted and faithful companion and loving, kind and affectionate mother could not be found. Her greatest delight was to make home pleasant and attractive to her children. She lost sight of self-interest and was entirely absorbed in the thought of making her home what it ought to be. She was in no wise selfish in the joy and comfort of her home. She endeavored to make others happy as well as her friends to spend the evening with the family and enjoy a rich repast. In this she manifested an appreciative spirit and the best method of revealing it. When but sixteen years of age she united with the Presbyterian church. In the year 1890 she united with the Christian church of Covington, where she lived a devoted life until last Sabbath morning about 1 o'clock, when the Death Angel came and called her home. During the last years of her life she was not permitted to attend the services of the church on account of failing health, yet she was ever anxious about the welfare of Zion. She was a great sufferer, but bore it with much patience. It was our privilege as her pastor to be at her bedside quite often during her last sickness and pray with her. We, therefore, take great pleasure in saving that she expressed a readiness to meet her God. She was perfectly resigned to His will. She leaves to mourn, a husband, five children, besides many other relatives and friends. But their loss is her gain. May the Christian example of a loving mother influence each one of her children to love Christ, her Savior and Guide, that they may meet her in that country that knows no death. Funeral services at her late home Tuesday afternoon at 2 o'clock, conducted by her pastor, W. D. Samuel, and interment in Highland Cemetery.
