Isa. 63-3 "I have trodden the winepress alone."
Rebecca M. Brown was born in Frederick County, Maryland, April 25, 1846, and passed away at the home of her daughter Mina, July 10, 1931 at the age of eighty-five years two months and fifteen days. In 1866 she came to Ohio with her parents in her gi rlhood days and settled near Troy.
March 11, 1872 she was united in marriage to George R. Kauffman and to this union were born four children, one son and three daughters. Wm. Kauffman of Martinez, Cal., Lillie B. Croft of Covington, Mina P. Loxley of Bradford and Georgia McGowan, deceased. Others surviving are nine grandchildren, six great grand children, one brother, Thomas Brown of Franklin, and several nieces and nephews.
On October 12, 1879 her husband met with an accident which resulted in his death and she was left alone to raise her family of little children. She lived in the vicinity of Greenville Creek for many years where she raised her family. She later moved into nearby Covington, Ohio.
Her cheerful disposition endeared her to everyone whom she came in contact with. She became a member of the Christian Church under the pastorate of Rev. Warberington. She took a great interest in the church and attended regular as long as her health permitted and received great comfort in reading her Bible.
Everything was done to make her last days comfortable by her daughters, Lillie and Mina.
